Overview
Old wallpaper can come off in layers, leaving adhesive, backing paper, or damaged areas behind. The right removal approach depends on how the wallpaper was installed and the condition of the wall underneath.
D&L Wall Design provides professional wallpaper removal in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and throughout South Florida. We remove the existing covering carefully, address remaining adhesive and loose material, and prepare the surface for new wallpaper or another finish.
Symptoms
When to call us in
The wallpaper will not peel cleanly
A loose corner does not always mean the whole sheet will come away easily. Wallpaper may separate from its backing or leave another layer bonded to the wall, making the next section harder to remove without the right approach.
Several layers are showing
Older rooms can have more than one covering in place. Multiple layers increase the amount of material to remove and make it more important to check the wall as each layer comes down.
The wall is left with paste or paper
After the visible wallpaper is removed, adhesive and backing can remain across the surface. Those remnants can affect the next finish if they are not dealt with before the wall is used again.
You are changing the room's finish
If you want to paint or install different wallpaper, removing the existing covering is the first step. Clearing the old material lets the condition of the wall be considered before the next work begins.
Our process
How the job goes
1
Review the existing covering
We check the wallpaper for layers, seams, loose areas, and how it is attached to the wall. This helps determine the right removal approach and where extra care may be needed.
2
Lift and remove the wallpaper
Sections are carefully loosened and removed using tools suited to the wallpaper and the wall underneath. We work in manageable areas rather than pulling across the surface.
3
Clear remaining backing and adhesive
After the main wallpaper is removed, we address any remaining backing, paste, or adhesive. The wall is checked as we go to make sure leftover material is properly identified.
4
Leave the surface ready for the next step
Once the wallpaper is removed, we inspect the exposed wall for areas that may need additional preparation. This helps determine what is needed before new wallpaper or another finish is applied.
Scope
What the job includes
Quoted after reviewing the wallpaper layers, wall condition and amount of material to remove.
Can all wallpaper be removed without damaging the wall?
Not always. Wallpaper may be strongly bonded, layered or attached to a surface that is already weak. The removal approach is adjusted to limit damage, but the exposed wall still needs to be checked after the covering comes down.
Will removing wallpaper also remove the paste?
Wallpaper removal and adhesive removal are separate parts of the work. Some paste may remain after the paper is down, so the wall is checked and the leftover material is addressed before the next finish.
Can you remove wallpaper that has been painted over?
Painted wallpaper may require more work because the paint can hold the surface together and make it harder for moisture or removal tools to reach the layers underneath. The covering is assessed before removal begins.
Is the wall ready to paint as soon as the wallpaper is removed?
That depends on the condition of the wall beneath. Remaining adhesive, backing, damaged areas or uneven sections may need attention before paint or new wallpaper is applied.
