During the wallpaper repair stage, an installer uses a fine-tip adhesive syringe to place paste behind a lifted seam while holding the paper flat with the other hand

Overview

Wallpaper can be damaged by moisture, furniture, everyday contact, or issues with the original installation. A lifted seam, loose corner, or small tear does not always mean the entire wall needs to be replaced, but the wallpaper and surface underneath should be assessed before repair begins.

The right repair depends on the type and extent of the damage. Loose wallpaper may need adhesive worked back underneath, while tears or missing sections may require a carefully matched piece. We focus on keeping the surrounding wallpaper clean, secure, and as seamless as possible.

Symptoms

When to call us in

A seam is opening

A narrow gap at a vertical or horizontal join can collect dust and continue to spread. Repairing it while the surrounding paper is still secure is usually more straightforward than dealing with a larger section that has lifted.

The edge or corner is loose

Wallpaper can pull away around a door, window, skirting or outside corner after repeated contact. A loose edge should be checked before it folds, creases or tears away from the wall.

There is a small tear or hole

A damaged patch may be repairable without disturbing the rest of the wall. The result depends on the size and position of the damage, the wallpaper pattern and whether a suitable piece is available.

A section has been marked or damaged

Scuffs, scratches and other local damage can make an otherwise sound wall look unfinished. We can assess whether the area can be repaired, patched or whether a larger replacement section is needed.

Our process

How the job goes

  1. Inspect the damaged area

We examine the loose section, tear, or other damage along with the wall underneath. The surrounding seams and pattern are also checked to determine whether a local repair is the right approach.

  2. Prepare the paper and wall

Loose material, dust, and failed adhesive are carefully addressed before the repair begins. If a replacement piece is needed, we check its size, direction, and pattern before placing it.

  3. Secure or replace the damaged section

When possible, the original wallpaper is secured back into place with adhesive. If a replacement is needed, the damaged area is carefully cut and the new piece is aligned with the surrounding pattern.

  4. Finish the repair

The repaired area is checked for raised edges, gaps, excess adhesive, and pattern alignment. We make sure the surrounding wallpaper is clean and the repair is finished as neatly as possible.

Scope

Wallpaper Repair questions

Answers before you book.

More questions on our full FAQ page.

Can a lifted seam be repaired without replacing the whole wall?

Often, yes. If the wallpaper is still in good condition, a lifted seam can sometimes be secured without replacing the entire wall.

Can you repair a small tear or hole?

A small tear or hole may be repaired with a matching piece of wallpaper. The result depends on the pattern, direction, and location of the damage.

What if I do not have spare wallpaper?

We can still assess the repair. In some cases, a matching piece may be taken from a less noticeable area, depending on the wallpaper and the damaged section.

Should I try to glue down a loose edge myself?

It is best to have the area checked first. The wrong adhesive or too much paste can mark the wallpaper, spread the damage, or leave the edge raised after it dries.
